A Business with no sign is a sign of no Business

Last week, my wife and I took a drive through our neighborhood business district. On one of the busier streets, we passed a sign with the tag line “A business with no sign is a sign of no business”. My first thought? “This advertiser is a genius!” I then started to think of the implication of those words for all entrepreneurs regardless of where they are in their journey to financial freedom.

The bottom line: No one will know what you want or expect unless you “advertise” it. We usually take for granted the idea of an elevator speech or networking, but in both cases, self promotion is the best way to build a lasting career and profitable business. An entrepreneur who does not network, promote, or advertise their company will not connect with those customers that are in need of his/her services. Similarly, in a work environment, if you are not promoting your work and abilities, your supervisor will not know that you are ready or willing to take on more.
